Silke Hendel

Silke is a Northland artist whose vibrant abstract paintings radiate joy and connection to nature. Inspired by the ever-changing light and landscapes of Aotearoa, her work explores movement, colour, and emotion, distilling the beauty of the world into bold, expressive compositions.

“I love how a single shift in light can completely transform a scene. My paintings aim to capture that fleeting magic – so you can hold onto it forever.”

After 30+ years in Wellington, Silke has recently returned to Northland, reconnecting with the landscapes that first inspired her.

Silke’s distinctive style is a fusion of bold colours and dynamic shapes. She blends bold shapes with flowing forms, evoking both serenity and energy. Each piece is a celebration of light, energy, and the uplifting power of colour.

“I want my paintings to be like a window into a world of joyful colour – bringing a sense of happiness and escape, like stepping into nature’s beauty, even on the greyest day.”

Silke’s work aims to transform spaces, bringing the brilliance of nature indoors. Whether it’s an original painting or a vibrant print, her art invites you to slow down and see the world through a different lens – one where colour, movement, and light come together in a joyful dance.

Each painting aims to be a vibrant escape, a moment of happiness captured on canvas.

Following her move back to Northland, Silke has embraced her lifelong passion for painting, recently launching Silke Hendel Art to follow her dream to create full-time.

Her website, www.silkehendelart.com, is growing to include a stunning collection of original paintings, high-quality prints, framed prints, canvas prints, greeting cards, and art calendars – each piece infused with her signature bold colours and joyful energy.

Whether you’re looking for a statement artwork for your home or office, a meaningful gift, or a daily dose of inspiration, Silke’s vibrant creations bring the beauty of nature into any space.
