The Whangarei Heads Arts Trail is a two-day event each Easter, showcasing local artists and their works in private studios and community venues between Onerahi & Ocean Beach.

It’s a rare opportunity to see artists at work in their natural habitat. Some studio doors open only once a year, especially for this event.

Use the trail guide to explore the Trail at your own pace. During the event, studios will be marked by the Whangārei Heads Arts Trail roadside flags.

Look for the Studio Flags!

Along the trail there will also be a range of places to stop to grab a coffee or bite to eat.

The trail is made possible by the committee running the Whangarei Heads Arts Trail Society, who facilitate the event each Easter, as well as curating occasional exhibitions at local galleries such as Reyburn House, and other events like pop-up shops.

“Our aim is to bring local artists and their works into the public domain to raise the profile of Whangarei Heads as a centre of Artistic Excellence and an Arts Tourism destination. Each year we invite guest artists to join us, who bring something new and exciting to the trail.”

As you take the scenic ride along Whangarei Heads Road, discover what wonders each studio reveals through the use of a range of mediums such as clay, stone, paint – water colour, acrylic, oil – photography, textiles, jewellery, precious metals, wood, glass and more.

Draw inspiration from works crafted with precision, skill and passion. Allow temptation to overflow by taking home a taonga or gift for someone special – perhaps for yourself. There may also be an opportunity to secure a commission.

“As a visitor to our Arts Trail, we hope that you feel a sense of welcome from our community as you wind your way around our beautiful coast.”

This two-day event is also a ‘weekend away’ opportunity with many places to stay and lots of things to do for people of all ages. Hike at Mt Manaia or Peach Cove, explore Ocean Beach, Kauri Mountain, Abbey Caves, Bream Head, Reotahi Marine Reserve, beautiful bays and so much more.

Connect with family and friends and join the Trail this Easter.

Discover Whangarei Heads and the unique world class art our community is renowned for.
