Catherine Polman

Catherine delight’s in finding random objects that can be incorporated in her work. She listens for their story and strives to express this through the work. Ideas spark from observations of her immediate environment, it may be a form or a pattern that grabs her attention.
Catherine prefers to have multiple projects on the go, involving different media and methods of working. To be able to let a piece sit while she works on another piece, or in a different medium, giving her brain the space it needs to listen and discover what the next best step is.
“Of course there are times where I haven’t really listened to what a piece wants, imposing my vision on the piece, and then I struggle.” She usually abandons it in the naughty corner for a while, before reworking it. This could be anything from building layers, or ripping it into two or three, to then join random pieces together, for it then to surprise her in its new form.
