Emma Verberne

Emma is a jeweller and multimedia artist based in McLeod Bay. She crafts unique jewellery, functional and playful clay creations, abstract paintings, and collages incorporating photography.

She spent years as a portrait and wedding photographer, capturing emotion and beauty in others. However, she finds the greatest fulfilment in using paint and collage to convey messages that resonate on a deeper level.

Emma enjoys connecting with her inner child to embrace freedom in expression. She works intuitively channelling the child, mother, and crone to convey powerful messages—often exploring themes of control. Through her art, she navigates the balance between spontaneity and restraint, using layers of paint, collage, and clay to express both the playful and the profound.

Emma’s work invites the viewer to embrace both vulnerability and strength, encouraging a dialogue between personal freedom and the forces that shape us. Whether through the tactile stillness of clay, the layered complexity of collage, or the raw energy of paint, she challenges perceptions and encourages introspection. Many of her creations are not just objects—they are experiences, each carrying a message that lingers beyond the surface.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Advertising and is a current WHAT committee member.

“I enjoy using creative process to navigate to the far reaches of the mind – both my own and the mind of the viewer. Let’s play.”
